Necwerk Productions was established in 2006 by writer Lanette M. White. Lanette was born and raised in Detroit and has always had a love and passion for writing. Lanette has studied theater at Eastern Michigan University, as well as acting in which she performed in plays at the University. She has also studied Technical Theater at Henry Ford College and was trained in stage lighting, audio/sound, and set construction under the direction of Stanley Moore. Lanette has worked on such plays as E.B. White's Charolette's Web, John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath, and Shakespeare's Macbeth, under the direction of Mr. Popovich.
Continuing with poetry, then later short stories and skits. Lanette's first skit "Send Me I'll go" was performed at her church, Church In The Light Bishop Carl C. Duncan, pastor, in 1996. Her next skit, "He's Alive"! was performed Easter Sunday at her church in 1998. Both were performed by The Church's Youth Department. Lanette continued to write poems that she recited for her church audience as well as writing poetry for the youth of her church to recite for programs. Of these poems were" When Santa Met Jesus" and "Brother's keeper". She has since written dozens of poems and is currently in the process of completing her first book of poetry entitled Twisted Journey. Lanette quit her job as a pre-school and early childhood educator in 2005, due to an illness. It was in 2006 when she wrote her first full stage play, with much encouragement from long time friend and producer Shawn P. Williams, Church Folks?!
Church Folks?! opened in downtown Detroit at the 1515 Theater on Broadway street. God blessed the performance to have six sold out shows, and was performed again by popular demand at the Ressurection Christian Church, and United Christian Church in 2007. Also the play went to Flint Michigan and was performed at the Buckham Alley Theater in February 2007, and has been performed in various local churches through out The Metro Detroit area.
Her next play was The Other Side Of The Story which opened November 2007 with a double cast at the same theater, for two weeks with sold out shows!
Saving Mama is a play about domestic violence as told through the eyes of a sixteen year old teenage boy who witnesses the abuse of a step father to his mother as he tries to figure out a way to "save his mama." The play is to be performed annually in lieu of National Domestic Violence Awareness month in October.
The forth play that she wrote was "out of the box" different from the previous plays. Step in The Name of Love, later changed to Hustle and Love, was a "Dancical", where two rival clubs battle for a piece of property located on the same block as these clubs are located. The two competing clubs decide to settle the dispute by holding a dance off competition in which the winning club secures the property. This was also an interactive play in which the participants from audience are called on stage to dance and the audience chooses the winner by voting. A truly innovative theater experience!
The fifth play was a Satire of the hit 1970's show Good Times called GoodTiming in September 2013 and performed at the Adray Auditorium on the campus of Henry Ford College in Dearborn Michigan.
The sixth piece was entitled When it Rains it Pours, a modern day interpretation based on the book of Job and performed at Fairhill MBC in Detroit Michigan.
